Do-it-yourself repair of a camping gas burner with piezo ignition: common breakdowns and their elimination

A gas burner is a practical and functional device that is successfully used in various fields of activity - at home, on vacation, in repair work, in industry. Its main characteristics are versatility, simplicity and compactness. All you need is a gas cartridge and a nozzle.

Gas burners are devices that differ in design and in areas of applicability, but they have one thing in common - they operate on gas.

Gas canister burners with piezo ignition are compact products that provide adjustment of the shape, power and temperature of the flame.

These portable, refillable designs, powered by a small-volume tube filled with a gas composition, should not be confused with larger, industrial welding machines powered by bulk cylinders of natural gas.

Using a small burner, you can quickly light a barbecue, heat metal construction elements in the cold, or melt plastic parts.

The fire temperature (up to +1300°C) is quite enough for soldering metal structures.

A burner flame is often required at home, during hikes, and for light installation operations. In this context, their tourist use is especially popular, for example, for starting a fire or heating canned food.

The burners are designed so that they do not clog, do not require heating, and do not accumulate odors. Possessing extensive functionality, they have a very wide range of applications.

Structurally, these devices are different - from elementary products to complex mechanisms equipped with special air ducts and piezoelements. There are several types:

  • portable stoves;
  • tabletop stoves;
  • burners.

The first are devices that include a cartridge with a gas composition, a special nozzle attached directly to the gas container or using adapter hoses.

The peculiarity of the top of the device is that containers of certain sizes can be installed on it.

The second are units with a spacious, horizontally located cooking part. The can is installed in the housing, where it is secured with a collet grip. Such products also provide for connection to conventional cylinders using special adapters and adapters.

The third type of product is produced in the form of nozzles put on a can, or mini-burners with built-in small gas containers.

The simplest design can be described as follows: a gas jet divider with a power regulator is attached to a gas cartridge, which also acts as a stand. At the same time, the device is compact, lightweight and inexpensive.

There are also sophisticated products that include folding supports and hoses with valves. They are larger in size and weight, but more stable.

Most of the models produced are equipped with piezo ignition, which ensures automatic ignition of the fuel. The function is convenient and practical, but to a certain extent it is quite vulnerable, requiring proper operation of the device.

Therefore, the ignition function should be duplicated.

Most household products belong to the category of injection devices, in which air is naturally sucked into the burner to maintain the fire.

Inside the device, in a special chamber, fuel is mixed with air, and after a spark appears, the mixture ignites. Such injectors help increase productivity and reduce fuel consumption.

Nozzles can be ring, slot or tubular.

The advantages of burners include:

  • reliability and design simplicity;
  • efficiency;
  • ease of carrying;
  • long service life;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • possibility of cooking food where making fires is prohibited.

Flaws:

  • difficulties with disposal of cylinders;
  • unreliable work in winter.

Burners are distinguished by purpose, design, and types of fuel used. The intended purpose of burners largely determines the variety of their types and the conditions in which they are used. So, they distinguish:

  • mini-burners (small);
  • manual;
  • portable travel;
  • household;
  • "pencils";
  • for soldering;
  • with gas control;
  • infrared;
  • alcohol

For example, portable units are used for:

  • processing of wood products;
  • devices with a “pistol” type directed flame are often used in installation types of work;
  • processing of steel parts using solders;
  • for making fires;
  • for heating and cutting metal fragments;
  • for thawing frozen pipelines.

Burners are a useful tool in auto repair shops, during the construction of greenhouses and other household structures. They are also divided according to the methods of attaching the cylinders. Several such types are known:

  • on thread;
  • collet - put on and turn a little;
  • valves - on clamps;
  • pierceable - connection with soft pressure.

Most often, threaded connections are used - they are reliable. Punctureable - do not turn off until the gas in the cartridge runs out.

The disadvantage of collet connections is that the fastener quickly becomes loose, leading to gas leaks. Valve types are more reliable.

Manufacturers use various types of flammable substances to inflate cartridges. The final selection of flammable substance is based on the intended use of the products, the required fire temperature, and power. To improve the composition parameters, several types of fuel are often mixed. The most commonly used combinations are:

  • propane-butane (70: 30) - mainly for use in summer;
  • propane, butane and isobutane in various combinations;
  • MAPP – methyl acetylene propadiene (for welding).

Cartridges are often produced that are filled with some homogeneous substance. Fuel selection is especially important when work is planned in extreme weather conditions.

Of the currently produced models, the top rating includes the following products.

  • incompatibility with large cookware.

Other gas burner malfunctions

Breakage of the piezoelectric element is a fairly common problem, but far from the main one.
As a result of frequent use of the device, other interruptions in its operation may occur, but the piezo ignition function will be fully operational. To understand the cause of the malfunction of the gas burner, you will need to completely disassemble it and inspect each part of the structure.

Often the burner does not ignite due to contamination of the nozzle, which occurs as a result of filling the cylinder with low-quality gas. That is, the gas simply does not enter the burner, which is why it does not ignite. In this case, you can clean the nozzle in several ways, which you will learn about later in the article.

Another reason for the gas burner to stop working is the ring falling out inside the nozzle, as a result of which the spark will not fly to the ring, but in different directions, which means that ignition will not occur. If the ring is lost during operation, then the only correct solution would be to make a replacement, for example, from simple copper wire.

Nozzle contamination - how to eliminate it?

The gas burner nozzle may become clogged due to the presence of dirt impurities in the regular gas that we use to refill the can.

To clean the nozzle - a small hole on the burner, it is quite difficult to find a suitable wire or needle, which means that it will not be possible to mechanically clean the nozzle.

If you can find a wire thin enough to clean such a small hole, you can quickly remove the contamination.

Professional craftsmen recommend cleaning the burner nozzle in the following ways:

  1. Blow the debris back out. Remove the nozzle and firmly press it with the side with the hole against the valve of the gas cylinder. If the contamination is not serious, then it is likely that under gas pressure the dirt can be blown back out.
  2. Clear the blockage by heating the nozzle. We attach a strong wire to the removed nozzle, and using a second gas burner, heat it red-hot, and then lower the element into the water. The method is quite radical, since heating the part can lead to its destruction.

In this case, it would be more advisable to resort to mechanical cleaning of the nozzle. The ideal option is to choose a wire of a suitable diameter, preferably with a pointed end. This is the easiest and safest way to eliminate contamination without damaging the structure.

How to replace the nozzle ring?

As a result of prolonged use of the burner, the ring heats up at high temperatures, and after some time it simply falls out.

In order not to look for a suitable ring, and especially not to spend money on buying a new burner, you can make a homemade replacement for such a ring.

Let's take a wire with a cross-section of 2.5 mm and bend a ring of the required diameter, having previously separated the required piece of material. As for the material, in this case it is recommended to use copper wire, although the original material of the ring is brass.

Making a brass ring will cost you more than buying a new burner, so the best option is a homemade copper ring.

There is only one way to distinguish this breakdown from a clogged nozzle - try to light the burner with matches. If the burner ignites, it means that the problem is not in the nozzle being dirty, in which gas does not enter the burner at all, and accordingly, it is impossible to light it.

How to avoid burner failure?

Since the most common reason for a gas burner with piezo ignition to stop working is the breakdown of its most important element - the piezo, it is important to take care of its safety. Do not damage the device or allow water to get inside the burner, especially if you are going camping.

At best, you will have to light the gas burner with matches, unless you remember to take them with you

Do not damage the device or allow water to get inside the burner, especially if you are going camping. At best, you will have to light the gas burner with matches, unless you remember to take them with you.

The duration of use of the gas burner should not exceed 10-15 minutes, after which it is necessary to give the device a little time to cool down

Even if the piezoelectric element is damaged in some way, you should not be upset, because today there are many autonomous piezoelectric ignition devices on sale. That is, it is the same piece, only portable.

So, you don’t have to unscrew the gas burner every time to put on a new piezo ignition, and such a portable piezo ignition will definitely come in handy not only outdoors, but also at home.

Do not forget that the cause of the malfunction may be simple contamination of the nozzle or a slipped ring, therefore, to identify the cause of the breakdown, it is important to conduct a thorough diagnosis of the device. If the piezo is working properly, you just need to try to light the burner to understand which part caused the burner to malfunction

Internal factors causing attenuation of the gas column

The reasons why the Junkers gas water heater does not work may be the following:

  • the batteries have expired;
  • the membrane is damaged (for example, it ruptured in one or more places);
  • malfunction of control sensors;
  • plugged and/or clogged pilot burner;
  • worn-out condition of the micro-switch (no clicking sound);
  • the water fittings are jammed due to the formation of rust on them;
  • dirty condition of the filter element, as a result of which the water flow is limited;
  • During installation, the inlet and outlet for water supply may have been confused;
  • the electrical circuit is in a damaged state (for example, broken);
  • the valve on the gas pipe may be accidentally closed;
  • the electrodes are clogged (there is no proper contact), which leads to failure of electric ignition.

Soldering tool

A gas heater with piezo ignition is a compact and mobile alternative to a hair dryer. To operate, it does not require a connection to wires; the fuel source is a gas cylinder; in this case, a burner with piezo ignition significantly bypasses a construction hair dryer, which is less convenient to use due to the need to connect wires, which are not always convenient to pull.

Application of gas burner:

  • heating and melting metal or plastic elements;
  • pipe melting;
  • hardening of small metal parts;
  • quick lighting of a fire or stove;
  • soldering of small parts;
  • other minor work that requires a mobile source of high temperature.

The gas temperature during combustion reaches 1300–1800°C. The tool is easy to use with one hand.

When to contact a specialist

Most of the breakdowns that cause defects during the operation of electric ignition are not dangerous to humans. But the continuous crackling and clicking can get pretty boring. What to do if the electric ignition does not work, and you couldn’t fix the problem yourself? A gas stove is a dangerous technique because it can cause gas leakage. It is better not to try to disassemble and repair the electric ignition yourself. Find out how to check the ignition unit of a gas stove, and if a problem is detected, contact a specialist. Repair of electric ignition in Moscow is carried out by calling a specialist to your home.

A few key facts about gas

There are two types of gas used in everyday life: methane and propane-butane. Methane, or natural gas, is supplied to residential buildings through the main gas pipeline, propane-butane is liquefied gas - in cylinders of different capacities.

Both species are potentially dangerous to humans. Inhaling large amounts of gas causes headache and suffocation.

In addition, methane and propane-butane can ignite from the slightest spark and provoke a fire or detonate and cause catastrophic destruction.

In their original form, both gases are transparent and odorless. Therefore, odorants are specially added to them for smell.

Electric ignition does not work on one burner

Most gas stoves are designed in such a way that a person does not have contact with open fire. The practicality of automatic ignition is explained by the fact that it is easy to use: all you need to do is turn on the button that is specifically designed for this. But the following problem may arise - the electric ignition does not turn on on one burner. What to do then?

If the ignition does not turn on when the button is pressed, or clicks are heard but there is no spark, it means that the device is not working properly. If all the burners are working properly and only one does not turn on, the problem may be in the high-voltage wire. It is supplied to the ignition device, and disturbances in it lead to interruptions. The cause may also be a breakdown of the ignition device or damage to the entire auto-ignition unit.

The most common cause of interruptions in the operation of one burner is contamination of the nozzle nozzle. When cooking food, food residues could get there, which interfere with the flow of gas. To fix the problem, you need to clean or replace the nozzle.

The problem of one non-working gas stove burner may be a breakdown of the gas control system. In this case, the flame flares up and goes out immediately after the button is released. The repair consists of replacing the thermocouple, electromagnetic button or the entire gas control mechanism. Its complexity depends on the degree of damage.

The gas valve on the stove may not turn properly. This is also one of the reasons for poor gas supply and poor combustion. The faucet handle becomes clogged with carbon deposits, particles of debris and dust. It should be lubricated, cleaned and turn well.

Inclusion rules

Connecting an open or closed type gas boiler is not as simple as it might seem, since this is not only a high-tech device, but also a dangerous one. There are too many connection options and circuits. The installation method and the order of connecting the highways are all individual. For this reason, it is recommended that the connection process, start-up and commissioning of gas equipment be carried out by an authorized service center.

In addition, if you connect a double-circuit or single-circuit gas boiler of an open or closed type yourself, this will void the performance warranty. However, situations are different. You should proceed as indicated in the instructions.

The algorithm for how to light a gas boiler will depend on the method of installation of the boiler. So, you can connect a wall-hung gas boiler correctly by proceeding as follows:

  1. Connect the device to the electrical network;
  2. Unscrew the gas valve and press the start button (the type with the name of this button is indicated in the operating instructions);
  3. Select the operating temperature using the plus and minus buttons.

Burners running on electricity are connected automatically after they have been switched to the hot water heating mode. The piezo type of ignition occurs by short adjusting the flame and pressing a special key.

Note! Switching on is blocked when air accumulates. It is enough to press the restart button and the boiler will be able to start working.

As for how to turn on a floor-mounted double-circuit or single-circuit open or closed boiler, this can only be done after the boiler room has been completely ventilated. The rest of the connection process is simple. First, you need to set the temperature selector to off mode, open the gas supply valve, and set the selector to piezo ignition. Then hold down the key for 5 seconds, press the piezo button and adjust the temperature.

Important! To prevent rupture of pipes and freezing of the system, you need to set the minimum indicator values before starting the boiler.

Symptoms of a problem

Are you trying to light a burner but the ignition is not working? This is a fairly common problem for owners of gas appliances. If you notice problems with the electric ignition, you should call a technician to your home. You can carry out preliminary diagnostics and try to determine the problem, but it is not always worth repairing the electric ignition of a gas stove yourself - this can only aggravate the problem.

Signs by which you can determine that the electric ignition has stopped working are:

  • continuous clicking of the electric ignition;
  • When you press the button, the electric ignition does not work;
  • ignition continues after the button is released;
  • constant appearance of sparks when the button is turned off;
  • the burner in the gas stove does not work or works with varying degrees of success;
  • knocking out the machine gun in the dashboard.

Burner cleaner - products worth using

You can find burner cleaner at any hardware store. These types of medications are available in a variety of options, allowing you to choose one that is perfect for your needs, but not particularly effective.

When choosing burner cleaners, you need to be extremely careful. They should not threaten the safety of the occupants of the home, but also should not negatively affect the gas stove you are using. Strong chemicals are most effective and can irritate your skin and even damage your cast iron, but you don't need to use them at home. They are commonly used in professional restaurant kitchens.

For home use, the best drugs are mild formulas that are weaker but equally effective. However, you need to put a little more effort into cleaning the burners. There are special preparations on sale for caring for burners, so purchasing a special agent will not be a problem. All information on how to use it can be found on the packaging.

Electric ignition does not work on one burner

Why doesn't the gas stove light up? Many models of this equipment are designed in such a way that a person does not come into contact with open fire. Automatic ignition is very practical, because it can be turned on with gas supply or using a specially designed button. But what to do if you suddenly notice that the electric ignition does not work on one burner?

If you press the ignition button and nothing happens, or you hear clicks but no spark appears, it means that the electric ignition has started to work incorrectly. At such moments, when only one burner does not light, and all the others are working properly, it can be judged that the high-voltage wire going to the ignition electrode is functioning intermittently. This may also be the result of a broken ignition device or failure of the ignition unit. Most often, one burner does not work when the nozzle of the burner nozzle is dirty. Food debris prevents gas from flowing through the hole, so the injectors need to be cleaned or replaced.

In addition to this problem, quite often one burner from the entire panel does not work due to a malfunction in the gas control system. In this case, the part may light up, but immediately go out after the button is released. It is necessary to replace the thermocouple, solenoid valve or the entire gas control system. Sometimes the combustion does not work because the gas valve is stuck. The handle does not turn well because small particles of carbon deposits get into the faucet mechanism or the lubricant dries out. You need to disassemble the gas valve, clean it and lubricate it.

Main stages

It is not difficult to make a burner or mini-burner according to the drawings, as already noted, without spontaneously changing the parameters.

Frame

The body is usually steel. A brass rod with a width of 2 cm is suitable for its manufacture. A divider can be made from the same rod. Then several holes are made that will help create oxygen circulation in the device. Fire, as you know, does not exist without oxygen. There should be 4 such holes: each about 1 mm in diameter. They are made in the burner divider rod. The next step is to press the divider into the device body. The internal flange is installed with a gap of 0.5 cm. This gap will subsequently slow down the powerful flow of gas that approaches the igniter.

Nozzle

This part of the device ensures the supply of fuel from the cylinder to the outside. It is made from a metal rod. At this point, the technician will need a two-millimeter drill to form a blind hole in the nozzle. And for the jumper you will need a four-millimeter drill.

Then a hose from the gearbox, made of fabric or rubber special material, is attached to the end of the tube. Fastening is carried out with a clamp using a regular screwdriver.

Assembly

When the mechanism is precisely secured correctly, you should set the required pressure in the cylinder and supply gas from it. The air is then completely displaced from the hose. The length of the fire, if all parts are positioned correctly, will be 40-50 mm. There is another way to manufacture and assemble a burner, in this case a miniature one. This device is convenient because it is easier to make it yourself, and you can hold it in your hands without fear of getting burned. That is, for those who doubt their abilities regarding more complex manufacturing, this option is suitable.

What you need to make and assemble a mini-burner:

  • old, out of order gas burner;
  • thin copper tube (10 mm);
  • copper wire;
  • needle from a syringe;
  • bolt No. 8.

And everything works like this.

  1. First, the tube for the burner is prepared (a file is used).
  2. The nozzle is made from a medical syringe.
  3. The tube is connected to the wire.
  4. 2 pieces of copper tube are connected.
  5. The adjusting bolt is inserted.
  6. The device adjustment is being tested.
  7. A tripod for the burner is being made.
  8. All that remains is to check the functionality of the device.

Natural gas appliances are made from a metal pipe, a blowtorch handle and a can. The homemade device is suitable for soldering copper, for roofing repair work, and for singeing the necessary structural parts.

When to contact a specialist

To repair electric ignition, you do not need to have much experience and knowledge; even inexperienced users can handle it.

However, sometimes it is necessary to conduct a thorough check and diagnostics of the device. You certainly won’t be able to do this with a flashlight and a simple screwdriver. For this reason, it will be necessary to call a specialist. Of course, the services of a specialist can be expensive, but sometimes a breakdown of the electric ignition can occur as a result of a serious reason that can pose a threat to humans.

Sometimes repairs should be left to professionals

In any case, before you start repairing the electric ignition device, you should carefully study the device diagram. This will help fix the problem much faster without harming the device.

It is important to check the combustion first; sometimes it may be a problem with the burner or other components

Gas leaks in gas cylinders: causes and what to do

In populated areas where it is not possible to connect to the network gas supply, the use of propane cylinders is the only possible way to operate devices powered by this type of energy carrier. This type of gas fuel is only slightly inferior to methane in terms of the amount of heat released during combustion, but the safety of fuel storage tanks is not always at a high level. Metal products are susceptible to destruction as a result of corrosion, and explosive depressurization of cylinders can also occur due to excessive heating.

Internal structure of the stove

Before you start repairing a Gorenje gas stove, it is important to understand the structure of the equipment in order to understand in which area you need to look for a breakdown. And also study the rules for the safe operation of gas appliances

Despite the huge variety of equipment in different price categories, all gas stoves have the same structure, and differences can only be observed in the original parts of each model.

Almost all new models of Gorenje gas stoves are equipped with a piezo ignition system, which often causes frequent equipment breakdowns

A classic gas stove is equipped with four burners, each of which is secured to the inner panel with bolts. The burner includes a lid, a divider and an injector, and a copper tube with a special “American” type fastening is connected to it. This is how gas is supplied to each burner.

If there is an electric ignition system, two candles are supplied to each burner: one is intended for ignition, and is powered by a piezoelectric element, while the second acts as a thermocouple that controls combustion.

The auto-ignition spark plug has a ceramic caftan, which prevents the spark from breaking below the set level, while the candle with a thermocouple is equipped with a bronze caftan, a powerful heat conductor.

The gas stove manifold, which is responsible for controlling the gas flow, is located under the top panel of the equipment. It is presented in the form of a thick tube, from which solenoid valves diverge to each burner - conductors responsible for controlling the gas flow. This way, even if one burner flame goes out, the other burners can still function safely.

How to remove control knobs?

If you need to either adjust the flame in the burners of a Gorenje gas stove, or simply clean the buttons from accumulated grease, you can remove the handles from the control panel yourself, without using additional tools. Depending on the age of the model, the handles may have slight differences in structure.

The first thing you need to do is turn off the gas valve, and then make sure that all regulators are turned off. Next, you can slightly pry the handle with a knife to simplify the process of removing the handles.

So, if you have an inexpensive model, the handles can be removed by pulling, since each of them is based on a spring. To do this, just pull the handle towards you, slowly turning it along the axis.

On expensive models of Gorenje stoves, the handles may be equipped with special fasteners that must be unscrewed before pulling the handle

To prevent the handle from slipping in your hands, you can wrap it with a small piece of fabric, and only then pry it off with a knife.

Heavy contamination of the control panel can slow down the process of removing the handles, so in this case it makes sense to use a special soap solution. Having previously moistened each part with this solution, you can safely begin removing the handles.

If you are not sure that you can fix the breakdown on your own, it is better to contact the company with which you have an agreement for the maintenance of gas equipment.

Ignition produces a spark, but the burner does not ignite

In cases where the electric ignition produces a spark, but the burner does not ignite, you should try replacing the thermocouple. Sometimes the problem is related to the solenoid valve, and after updating it, the equipment operates normally. You should check the ignition unit, because if everything is fine with it, but ignition does not occur, you need to look for a problem in the power wire or burner spark plug.

If a spark is supplied, the flame lights up, but immediately goes out, try holding the gas button longer. It is likely that the sensors responsible for the formation of the flame simply do not have time to warm up.

Causes of failure

Why doesn't the gas stove work? There are two most common reasons for poorly functioning electric ignition:

  • electrodes do not produce a spark;
  • the electrodes spark without stopping.

One of the reasons why the electric ignition of a gas stove does not work well is grease on the buttons. Solving the problem is very simple: just clean and dry the components of the hob, all the buttons in order to repair the electric ignition of the gas stove caused by contamination.

Another possible cause of failure is a crack or broken ceramic insulation on the spark plug. A dirty spark plug can fail if dirt accumulates on it. Also, the spark plug may stop working properly due to poor sealing or oxidation of the rod made of steel. In addition, the element may crack due to careless handling. In this case, the spark begins to strike to the side. The only way out of the situation is to replace the spark plug.

When the spark generation unit (ignition transformer) burns out, the button you press does not create a spark. If the piezo ignition on a gas stove does not work, it is easier to buy it than to repair it. It is possible to repair this element, but it is too expensive - it is cheaper to purchase a new one.

When washing the stove, water very often gets into the contact area of the power buttons. High humidity creates all the conditions for these contacts to oxidize, become hard and break over time. In some cases, the opposite happens - the contacts may stick together and not work correctly. It’s easy to solve a similar problem with automatic ignition not working - just cleaning and drying is enough, after which the functionality of the hob will be restored.

Reasons for the lack of spark and flame in boilers with semi-automatic ignition - methods for eliminating them

Most of these models are equipped with Eurosit 630 automatic transmission.

Photo of the Eurosit 630 automation.

One of the reasons why a gas boiler with automatic “Eurosit 630” does not light up or goes out may be:

The piezo element is faulty

The piezoelectric element is a reliable part of the gas boiler automation system and breaks down in rare cases. It is installed next to the coolant temperature control knob, but can be mounted separately. To check the functionality, it is enough to disconnect the wire along which the generated voltage moves from the electrode and bring it to the valve body at a distance of 4-8 mm.

Piezoelectric element wire disconnected from the electrode.

Press the piezoelectric element's trigger button several times

If a spark appears between the wire and the housing, it means that the generator is working and you should pay attention to the electrode itself, the ceramic housing of which must be dry and intact. The electrode mounting nut must only be tightened by hand.

The emergency electrical circuit is broken

The emergency protection system for a gas boiler consists of:

  • connecting wires;
  • bimetallic sensors installed in the chimney and heating supply line, triggered at a temperature of 75-85 degrees Celsius;

Safety precautions for use

Remember about the explosion hazard of liquefied hydrocarbon gas, including propane-butane mixture and other gas mixtures used in gas equipment. Both during testing and during further use of the gas burner, follow the safety rules.

Do not use a gas burner at a distance closer than 10 meters from a gas cylinder, this violates safety rules and can lead to an explosion and fire

It doesn’t matter whether the burner is factory-made or home-made, if it is used incorrectly and if the gas cylinder is handled incorrectly, the following negative consequences are possible:

  • fire occurrence;
  • explosion of a gas cylinder;
  • getting burned.

Burns can be caused not only by an open flame, but also by touching heated surfaces. To minimize risks, install the gas cylinder strictly in a vertical position on a flat surface, in a well-lit place, but not in direct sunlight or in a passage or doorway.

The distance from the cylinder to an open flame must be at least 10 meters, and from heat sources - at least 1 meter. Protect the cylinder from impacts and falls. Do not connect more than one burner to it.

Check the reducer quarterly, the burner monthly, and the hose daily. The need to check the hose daily is due to its vulnerability - even a slight mechanical impact can lead to ruptures and cracks, which will become the site of a gas leak, which must be excluded.

The risk of gas leakage also increases if the nozzle and tube are dirty, so it is necessary to clean them regularly. To inspect and maintain the burner, first disconnect it from the gas cylinder.

With timely maintenance of the torch, its flame will be powerful and stable, which will allow welding of many materials at temperatures of about 1000 °C

Do not warm up a frozen gearbox with an open flame. Operate the burner outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Turn off the power supply if you work near electrical appliances, do not pinch or bend the hose, do not wrap it around your belt, etc.

After finishing the work, be sure to tighten the cylinder valve and put the protective cap on the cylinder.

Spray cans

These are convenient compact devices that provide fuel in nature, on hikes, etc.

How to clean a gas burner for a spray can? Here only a mechanical method is needed. An analogue of a cleaning rod is created from available devices. For the procedure to be effective, you need to understand the operating principle of such a device.

The burner is threaded onto a cylinder. Due to the pressure inside it, the fuel rapidly flies out of the hole, forming a mixture with oxygen along the way. Thanks to this, combustion occurs.

The cleansing procedure is performed in a place away from open flames and hot appliances. You need to disconnect the burner from the container.

The created cleaning rod systematically cleans the internal cavity of the gas supply tube.

At home, cleaning can be done with a long knitting needle or similar object.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

The reasons for the breakdown of a gas burner with piezo ignition are described in more detail in this video:

A visual process of replacing the piezoelectric element of a gas burner is presented in the following video:

The breakdown of a gas burner with piezo ignition becomes a real problem if you go camping, and this device is the only source of fire for heating water and cooking. In this case, you should play it safe and take matches with you, since malfunction of the piezoelectric element in such burners is not uncommon.

If you have previously had to repair a gas burner yourself, please tell us what caused the device to break down and what difficulties you encountered during the repair process. Immediately after the article, you can leave a comment in which you can share your experience of independently repairing a burner with piezo ignition.

How the function works

An electric ignition system is provided in gas-type stoves. Its main purpose is to ignite the fuel that comes from the burner divider. The electric ignition device can be of two types:

  • automatic;
  • mechanical.

Auto-ignition has special piezoelectric elements, which, when turning the switch on the panel, ignite the gas-air mixture. When using a mechanical device, you need to press a special button. When pressed, a spark is generated, which ignites and ignites the gas.

The operating principle of electric ignition looks like this:

  • when the user presses the button, voltage is applied to the capacitor area;
  • after this, charging of the capacitor begins;
  • then there is an increase in the level on the thyristor;
  • as soon as it reaches the permissible limit, the capacitor begins to discharge;
  • a voltage appears at the output of the device, due to which the spark gap is activated;
  • the spark released ignites the gas.

Electric ignition operation

Although the process looks complicated, it happens in a matter of seconds. The spark always hits the area of the burner that is on at that moment. In outdated products, a spark was supplied to all burners, but ignition occurred only on the one on which the gas supply was open.

The electric ignition is powered from an electrical network with a voltage of 220 volts. Its operation also depends on voltage surges, which can occur quite often. If a power surge occurs, a clicking sound may occur, which usually indicates a faulty ignition device.

High voltage unit design

Repair of gas stoves with electric ignition

Cheap printed circuit boards that make up the electronic components of household equipment cost $10 rubles. Consumers avoid repairing budget gas stoves with electric ignition with their own hands. A price exceeding $30 involuntarily provokes the idea of saving money. You visit the amateur radio forum: you see... Ready-made electrical circuits for ignition devices. Wind step-up transformers, look for capacitors, solder, smoke equipment at your own peril and risk.

Operating principle of electric ignition

Unlike most household appliances, repairing gas stoves with electric ignition requires you to master the technique of replacing resistors. Frequent, ongoing process. Newcomers challenging the appropriateness of the event cause general indignation among forum members. They call the amateur with offensive phrases, and condescendingly explain, inside the high-voltage unit:

  1. High voltage transformer.
  2. Capacitor.
  3. Diode.
  4. Resistor.

The electrical circuit is specially filled with compound, so the burdock will not get inside. You pick it apart, saving your hard-earned $30. The self-taught person ignores the manufacturer’s thoughts about protecting products against unauthorized access.

The electric ignition unit for a gas stove optionally contains control elements - thyristors, triacs. It would take a long time to explain the exact operating principle of the components of electric ignition. It is worth noting: the behavior of semiconductor products resembles a key (a faucet - plumbers are more accustomed to thinking about it). Semiconductor electronic elements are used to control a power line using a voltage with an amplitude of 5-12 volts.

The analogy of a water valve is complete. A person makes a symbolic effort when opening the tap, releasing the incredible power of the pump. The tiny voltage of the control electrode reaches the operating point, the thyristor opens, starting the electrical ignition circuit. There are two positions: open, closed. Digital microelectronics of pure water. Any processor is formed by semiconductor keys - miniature, indistinguishable to the human eye. PCs are considered a logical evolutionary continuation of electronic circuits.

A high-voltage transformer increases the voltage (units of kilovolts) of the output winding, and the slot of the burner arresters is illuminated by an electric arc. Gas is supplied by the handle of the same name, starting the electric ignition circuit. There are other models of devices. Thanks to the spark, the gas ignites:

  • By pressing the button, the cook charges the capacitor with rectified voltage;
  • the capacitance begins to accumulate electrons;
  • the voltage level of the control thyristor increases, when it reaches a threshold value, the capacitor is discharged, warming up the primary winding of the transformer;
  • the output of the electric ignition circuit generates a voltage that triggers the spark gap;
  • a spark ignites the gas.

The operating principle of electric ignition is based on charging the capacitor through a rectifying diode to a certain level. Specific implementations of the scheme vary. Be ashamed to study an electrical engineering textbook: repairing the electric ignition of a gas stove with your own hands is easier than a steamed turnip. Know a couple of rules, know how to solder.

Damn resistor

The mentioned resistor of the electrical ignition circuit is often rated at 3.9 kOhm. The dissipation power is 0.5, less often 1 W. The size of the capacitance has long been known (according to forum members) - a couple of fractions above 2 microfarads (the numbers go in jumps according to the series given by GOST, it will not be possible to find exactly 2 microfarads, except from the E24 series) with an operating voltage of 250 volts. A radio amateur will not notice any difficulties. There were times when fuel assemblies were rewound manually!

The average person wants to know the sequence of actions. First, you need to turn off the electric ignition of the gas stove from the voltage source. The second step is to remove the electronic, high-voltage units. The design consists of separate printed circuit boards, a single substrate. There are other options.

Begin your inspection by assessing the quality of the tracks and solder joints. The conductor layer, which looks like a silver stripe, is covered with a layer of varnish. Made to protect the electrical ignition circuit from external factors, primarily moisture. The varnish reliably covers the conductive layer. Do you have nail polish at home? It will fit one hundred percent.

The deposits are cleaned off with zero sandpaper, degreased with alcohol, and varnished on top. The peeled, torn tracks of the electrical ignition circuit are restored.

Example. The conductive layer is torn. Both edges are lightly sanded, tinned, and joined with solder. Varnish is applied over the cooled solder, alcohol is used as needed. For wiping the printed circuit board, of course.

The burnt resistor is black. The denomination is indicated above. It is not forbidden to install a more powerful element. Eyewitnesses unanimously say: the further process of operation is going excellently. Let's give the stove circuit a resistor with a nominal value of 9 kOhm. It is better to take the dissipation power equal to greater than the similar parameter of the original element. 1 W is fine.

A capacitor failure can be seen from afar. Some (electrolytic) swell; the swollen barrel cannot be missed by an attentive master. Regarding the denominations, it is recommended to ask members of the forum. Modern marking of resistors with multi-colored rings is more complex than the traditional alphanumeric inscription. Tolerance was expressed as a percentage.

Repairing an electric ignition gas stove can be a simple matter. If the windings of the transformer are burnt out, you will have to buy a new one. Do you want to check the location of the fault? At each output we find a pair that rings.

The resistance (use a multimeter) is hundreds of ohms. There were “legs” hanging in the air: most likely a problem with the installation of the transformer. Rewinding the activity is not easy. The Internet will provide you with valuable information. A core shaped like the letter W is used.

There are a dozen primary turns; the secondary winding will have to be taken seriously.

Beyond electronics

After examining the printed circuit boards of the gas stove, pay close attention to the condition of the button. A control panel element that starts the spark gap ionization process. The contacts of the electric ignition button are powered by a centralized voltage of 230 V. Brass contacts are easily melted by a welding arc in the event of a short circuit. It is recommended to clean the pads and check the functionality of the switch with a multimeter (ringing).

A product that can withstand operating voltage is suitable. Electric ignition will not work any worse. At times, installation is accompanied by technical difficulties. The button does not fit the installation dimensions of the case. Finish with a file.

The main thing is to wire the cross-connect correctly; the necessary spare parts are often sold separately.

Each burner is equipped with a candle and a combustion control device (thermocouple). The electrical ignition of a gas stove differs little in circuitry from that of an ordinary car. Do you want to check the serviceability of the electric ignition spark plug on your gas stove? Turn off the gas. Remove the reflectors, dividers of each burner (round things that form tongues of fire), look... When you press the ignition, the products give a good spark. 1 candle broken? The cause of the breakdown of the electric ignition of the gas stove has been found.

The combustion control circuit is composed of a thermocouple (temperature sensor of any type). It happens that the electric ignition works 100%, but the gas refuses to burn. It's more about this node. The command closes the blue fuel supply path. A regularly beating spark from a gas stove is powerless to ignite air devoid of a combustible mixture.

The electric ignition unit is equipped with 4 or 6 outputs; the literature is silent about the reason for the need for the specified number of contacts. We assume that 1 pair is used for the oven and grill. Current trends oblige the manufacturer to produce models a la Two in One. A gas stove with electric ignition of the oven is convenient: you will find models where the option is not implemented, and those where you will have to modify the circuit with a copper wire. I'll need my husband's help.

Own schemes

We are ashamed to call the electrical circuits for igniting a gas stove complex. Radio amateurs make it easier. The getinax board is etched and the necessary elements are soldered in. The initial composition of the electric ignition of a gas stove is provided by a ready-made transformer and a button discussed above.

An experienced engineer can usually improve upon this from the manufacturer. The Internet provides an interesting circuit for electric ignition of a gas stove, formed by a triac, strikingly simple.

Electric ignition does not work on two burners

In some cases, a gas stove on two burners does not light. Sometimes lighting it with a match helps - everything works normally, without interruption. The cause of this malfunction is damage to the spark plug responsible for ignition. We repair electric ignition as follows: clean the spark plug and look at its condition; perhaps it’s enough just to clean the spark plug’s power wire.

If there is a crack on the element, we buy a new part and put it in place of the old one. The electric ignition may also break down due to a faulty ignition button. Moisture or small debris could have gotten into it, or it could have been damaged mechanically. To fix this, you need to clean the oxidized buttons or replace them if they are mechanically damaged.

Manufacturing Features

The design features are that it is very easy to operate; there are no traces of soot or repulsive odors when using the gas burner. This device is compact and can be used virtually anywhere. The main component of the burner is the industrial valve. You can purchase a new part, however, and used ones that are in working order are quite suitable. The process of making a burner with your own hands begins with the handle, then the body and nozzle are made.

In order to obtain a burner that is safe to operate and does not waste fuel, you need to make it a rule to avoid scaling and adjusting the example circuits.

To be fair, it is worth noting that not all gas appliances are calculated according to the laws of gas dynamics. But if the manufacturer changes the dimensions of the design parts, then the Reynolds number of the fuel (or intake air) will go beyond the limits indicated in the original product. The burner with such “improvisation”, if we give an optimistic forecast, will begin to smoke and will be “gluttonous”, or even be completely dangerous in operation.

And one more important note regarding the manufacturing features of the burners: it is impossible to increase its power above 10 kW. And that's why. With a burner efficiency of 95% (which is an excellent indicator for an amateur invention), with a device power of 1 kW, it will take 50 W to self-heat

It is theoretically possible to get burned on the structure, but it is not fraught with explosion. But if you build a burner with a capacity of 20 kW, 1 kW will be superfluous. Threshold manifestation is expressed by the structure being hot or bursting into flames. Therefore, those burner drawings that are oriented at 7-8 kW should not be considered

Lights up and goes out immediately

The reasons for this problem are:

  1. Weak traction. The chimney needs cleaning. If there is poor ventilation in the kitchen, then you need to open the windows or install a ventilation valve on the window frame.
  2. The ignition button is pressed poorly. It needs to be held for 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. The sensor that removes combustion products does not work. This can be found out using a multimeter. If the sensor is working, there will be a sign on the screen indicating infinity.
  4. Mixing streams. You need to set the regulator to a constant normal temperature.
  5. High pressure in models with low power. Set water parameters as indicated in the instructions.
  6. Systematic switching off of the overheating sensor. Solution: replacing it.
  7. Adjust the igniter. Disconnect the electrode from the igniter so that the spark is in the central part of the burner. Inspect and test the tube connections for leaks.

If ignition is delayed, clean the burner. There is a high probability that soot and soot have accumulated in it. The problem may also lie in the microswitch.

Using a gas burner

The most popular design can rightfully be considered a burner with piezo ignition. As a rule, such devices are an indispensable thing on a camping trip, as they become a simple, all-weather alternative to a fire. The mini-device gives you the chance to quickly cook or heat food and boil water almost instantly. Its advantages over open fire are the ability to control fuel and adjust the strength of the flame.

Modern portable equipment is protected from the wind, and some models are equipped with holders for utensils. Maximum ease of use of a simple gas burner is also not the last plus: owners do not have to “mess around” with matches, since the flame is ignited by pressing a button. Burners with piezo ignition are an almost obligatory attribute of dachas, which simply do not require a connection to the gas main.

In housework and workshops, such mini-devices are used for heating metal or other surfaces and for soldering parts. In both cases, simple fuel-powered devices have a great advantage over construction hair dryers and soldering irons. They do not require electricity to function. However, gas burners can also refuse to work, and an emergency occurs for various reasons.

The most common of them are water getting inside the mechanism and failure of the piezo ignition to work. Most often, it is because of the last element that produces a spark that gas equipment breaks down.

Our recommendations and suggestions!

In addition to power, design, type of fuel, they also pay attention to the manufacturer. They are non-specialized, that is, they produce everything, including burners for tourism. They are specialized, producing various types of stoves that run on fuel, or camping equipment, which includes burners. And of course, global manufacturing companies that are leaders in their segment.

Let's start with the leaders . Their developers are in constant scientific research, improving, inventing and patenting, relying on the experience and advice of famous athletes, tourists and climbers. Their products are of excellent quality and are quite expensive.

Specialized manufacturers include Korean products. It demonstrates excellent quality and a very reasonable price, copying “premium” models and using less expensive raw materials.

Non-specialists account for the wide production of various goods, with an impressive assortment: dishes, camping goods, various gas equipment, camping furniture, tourist and mountaineering rigging, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and much more. Brands such as Tramp and Cadac are well known on this path. These products are “economy” class and are quite suitable for any budget.

The online store of tourist equipment "VinAuto" in Kyiv offers an excellent selection of burners and stoves for tourism, recreation, sports and work. Among the presented assortment you will find all types of burners. Minimum prices for burners start from 201 UAH. for the alcohol option. • Multi-fuel models will help you when traveling around the world and hiking in unexplored places.

Choose what is more convenient and profitable. And let the warmth penetrate your tents and souls, softening and warming hearts in Ukraine!

Ignition operating principle

Electric ignitions, which are equipped with most modern models of gas boilers, include the following elements: diode, resistor, capacitor, transformer, spark plug, switch. This convenient and practical invention facilitates the operation of the unit, speeding up its activation and configuration. With the help of a compact device, you can ignite a flame in a burner not only quickly, but also safely, without the use of matches and lighters, which tend to run out and deteriorate. The flame appears immediately after pressing a button or turning a lever. It is customary to distinguish between several types of electric ignitions for gas boilers - mechanical, automatic and semi-automatic. If the unit is equipped with mechanical ignition, to turn it on you need not only to activate the burner by turning the switch, but also to press a special button. The device will generate a spark and ignite the flame. If the electric ignition is automatic, then the equipment turns on when you turn the handle - there is no need to use additional devices. To be able to use automatic ignition, the heat-generating device must be connected to the network (a grounded socket must be nearby). If the electric ignition of a gas boiler fails, you should call a heating equipment repairman at home; this can be done on the website https://24master.com.ua/.

Adviсe

  • Bic lighters usually come with a tamper-proof protective case that fits over the wheel. This case often gets in the way. However, it is easily removable: simply bend the metal bracket with your fingers or thin pliers and separate it from the lighter body.
  • The easiest way is to pry off the metal protection with a thin screwdriver or the end of a knife from the side of the button. There is no need to bend it too much, just enough for the latch to come out of its socket.
  • After refilling your Zippo lighter, hold it upside down for one minute.
  • There is a danger of explosion when handling the lighter, so be careful.

Causes of failure

Many owners of household appliances often have a question: why did the electric ignition stop working? Failure of this function can occur for various reasons, among which it is worth highlighting:

  • no spark at the electrodes;
  • moisture or grease has reached the surface of the internal part of the system or the spark plug;
  • breakdown of the electric ignition can occur due to the appearance of a crack or due to damage to the insulation of the ceramic base candle;
  • The transformer, the spark generation unit, burned out. Usually, when you press the button, there is no spark. You can do it yourself, but experts recommend replacing the part with a new one;
  • the presence of oxidation of the contacts of the power button or the appearance of a layer of soot on them, which was formed as a result of a short circuit.

Sometimes minor malfunctions can appear as a result of wet cleaning of the hob. This usually occurs due to moisture getting into the interior of the appliance. To eliminate everything, it will be necessary to take preventive measures: clean the contacts, dry the spark plugs. All these actions can be carried out by any user without knowledge and experience in this matter.

Malfunction may occur when cleaning wet

It happens that only one burner does not light. This may occur due to a malfunction of the high-voltage wire that goes to the ignition electrode. The ignition device itself may break down, or the block channel may fail.

Breakage can sometimes occur when cleaning the burner

How to replace the piezo element?

Do-it-yourself repair of a gas burner is always necessary if there is no spark. This problem in most cases indicates a breakdown of the “device within a device”. Therefore, there is only one way out: replacing the failed element. This operation is not so complicated, and the purchase of a new piece will most likely not be required either.

It must be said right away that external differences in gas burner models do not affect the designs. All devices have the same configuration, the elements are standard, so it’s quite easy to find replacements. As already noted, most often it is the piezoelectric element that fails. Failure provokes the ingress of water or other liquid; breakdown is possible due to a strong impact, the device falling from a great height, etc.

To repair a gas burner with your own hands, the technician will need the following tools and materials:

  • soldering iron;
  • screwdriver and bits for it;
  • heat shrink tubes for wire insulation;
  • electrical tape if there is no heat shrink on the farm at the moment.

It’s good if you have a new or empty lighter at home, since it’s easiest to get the piezoelectric element from it.

First of all, the device is checked to again make sure that there is no spark. After receiving evidence of a malfunction of the device, its housing is disassembled. During this work, the condition of the remaining parts is carefully examined; such a check largely concerns various contaminants. They should be disposed of immediately.

After they get to the piezoelectric element, cut the wire connecting it to the burner. Then it is removed. In the same way, remove the element from the gas lighter. The supply of wire must be sufficient to connect it to the burner.

When replacing the device, heat-shrinkable tubes are used for conductors, which are heated with a lighter. The repaired gas burner is reassembled in exactly the same sequence as it was disassembled.

After the operation is completed, the device is tested. If no errors were made, then the gas burner should function flawlessly.

Methods for troubleshooting geysers

Geyser "Vector" is one of the most popular in Russia. This is evidenced by sales statistics.

When the piezoelectric element does not work in the Vector gas water heater, a spark does not appear and the burner does not ignite. The reasons for the problems are:

  1. Lack of draft in the chimney. It could simply be clogged and need to be cleaned. There is a special sensor in the column that monitors the presence of traction. If it is not there, it will not start working. If you cannot do this yourself, it is better to call a special service.
  2. No water pressure. If the water pressure is very good, then it affects the membrane, which presses on the valve. Very low pressure may indicate problems with the membrane or that the filter is clogged.
  1. The nutrient element is not working. Ignition is done using batteries, without which there will be no current to create a spark. You need to remove the panel, then take out the battery pack, pull them out and insert new ones.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS BEFORE STARTING WORK

2.1. Before starting work, you should put in order and put on overalls, safety shoes, and, if necessary, check the availability and prepare other personal protective equipment. Overalls must be of the appropriate size, clean and not restrict movement. 2.2. Before work, you need to select the tools and technological equipment necessary to complete the work, check their serviceability, tools and materials must be located in a convenient place, taking into account the technological sequence of their use. 2.3. When preparing a gas cylinder for operation, it is necessary to remove the steel cap and plug from the valve using a non-ferrous metal wrench, inspect the fittings, if necessary, remove dirt and blow out the valve by quickly turning the flywheel (open-close). 2.4. If the cap cannot be removed, the cylinder is considered faulty and must be sent to a warehouse. 2.5. Before starting work, it is necessary to check the gas burner, since a clogged nozzle can cause an intermittent flame, “backfire”, or gas leakage at the connections of the hoses to the burner and to the cylinder. 2.6. All tools and devices for performing work must be in good condition; Defects discovered during the inspection must be eliminated; if it is impossible to eliminate the defects on your own, no work can be done. 2.7. Before starting work, it is necessary to carefully inspect the work site, put it in order, remove all foreign objects and, if necessary, install protective barriers. 2.8. You should not start work in case of the following violations of safety requirements: - in case of malfunctions of the tools used, technological equipment, or protective equipment for workers; — in case of insufficient illumination of the workplace and approaches to it. 2.9. The employee must personally ensure that all measures necessary to ensure safety are completed. 2.10. An employee should not start work if he has doubts about ensuring safety when performing the upcoming work.
