The height of the washing machine is far from the only indicator by which you should choose a suitable model. It is very important not to forget to take into account parameters such as device width and depth. But the dimensional guidelines of washing machines with different types of loading have significant differences.
According to these indicators, the maximum volume of laundry that the machine can wash at one time is 6 kg.
Narrow models differ only in the drum depth of 35-40 cm. At the same time, the maximum volume of laundry that a narrow model can wash at one time is 5 kg. The basic idea is that the space occupied by the washing machine is used from floor to ceiling. The plasterboard rack for tiling is divided into three niches, the middle of which is intended for a typewriter. The purpose of the remaining two niches depends on your imagination. One of the current options: a basket with dirty laundry is stored in the lower compartment, and a storage water heater is installed in the upper compartment.
This design effectively uses the bathroom space. There is also a significant drawback - the shelving significantly reduces the visual space and can create a cramped effect. In any case, the solution is worth considering and can be used in some cases.
Well, now I propose to talk about the technical aspects of implementation.
Since the washing machine is a source of significant vibrations, the conventional structure of metal profiles and plasterboard must be reinforced. I suggest doing this using plywood. I am more inclined towards 18 mm plywood, but practice shows that this design works great with 10 mm plywood.
All gaps between the profiles should be filled with plywood inserts, securing the plywood to the inside of the profile using wood screws. The mortgages should be placed on the side that will be closer to the operating machine.
By and large, mortgages can be attached both from the inside of the profile and from the outside (instead of the first layer of drywall). However, when attaching mortgages from the outside, the thickness of the structure increases, and this is not always acceptable. By the way, when using plywood, I don’t see any point in twisting two layers of gypsum board.
Plumbing pipes for the machine (water supply and sewerage) can be hidden in the grooves of the rear wall or in the plasterboard side rack. The power cable is also located there. An important point: it is better to place plumbing connections and an electrical outlet in a niche under the machine
. If you connect communications directly behind the washing machine, it will be difficult to disconnect the equipment from water or electricity if it breaks down. To route hoses and power cords, you need to provide a hole in the shelf.
Now a little about the sizes. The dimensions of the niche rack, of course, depend on the specific idea, but some points should be taken into account. The width of the niche is selected based on the width of the equipment plus 1.5-2 centimeters for the gaps on the left and right (this is the final size with the tiles glued on).
The standard width of many washing machines is 60 cm, add 1.5 cm for gaps + 1.2 cm for tiles with glue (8 mm tiles): 60+(1.5+1.5)+(1 ,2+1.2)=65.4 cm - the width of a plasterboard niche without tiles.
The depth of the niche is also calculated from the dimensions of the machine body plus 7-10 cm for the free location of the pipes behind, plus a few centimeters on the front side. For example, the depth of the body is 40 cm, add 7 cm for the pipes and 5 cm for the space from the edge on the front side: 40 + 7 + 5 = 52 centimeters for the depth of the niche with laid tiles.
The height of the niche is arbitrary, the main thing is to add a margin of 5-10 cm for ease of removal/installation. All sizes are recommendations and are not an axiom.
If you are concerned that a working machine may move off the shelf, you can provide several rubberized stoppers to the left and right of the front side of the unit.
