Distance from the well to the house: SNiP (SP) and SanPiN standards to the neighboring site

Date: May 26, 2022 Owners of private houses are thinking about where to place a septic tank on the site. The purification device is designed for wastewater. Used for the construction of a local sewer system. More details about how to locate a septic tank on a site within other objects according to SNiP will be discussed in this article.

Distance from the septic tank to the border of the site

If you are designing a wastewater disposal system on your site, take into account factors that may affect the quality of the septic tank. The main factors include the topography of the site, the depth of groundwater and soil quality. Many people mistakenly believe that a septic tank needs to be installed away from water intake systems.

However, this cannot be done for several reasons, including:

  1. Most suburban areas have a small area, so it is not possible to install a septic tank at a reasonable distance from other objects.
  2. Some areas may be problematic because... have unfavorable terrain with slopes and hills. If there is a slope in the yard, it is better to install septic tanks at the lowest point of the site. This will ensure safety.
  3. If groundwater lies close to the surface of the earth, the device cannot be installed above the aquifer. This will cause severe pollution.

Experts are convinced that the septic tank should be located at a distance of 5-7 m from the border of the site.

Where is the water on your property?

There is an opinion that you need to look for a place for a well where there is water. Various types of specialists search for water in the area using different methods - from “dowsing” to searching for an area where burdocks grow on the surface, indicating high humidity in this place.

Yes, all these methods show where the water vein, a layer of aquiferous sand, comes closer to the surface. The layers are not strictly parallel to the surface; they rise and fall, with deflections up or down.

Before you find a place where you need to dig a well, you should, of course, pay attention to the signs of sagging of the aquifer. But I would like to note that there is water everywhere under your site. Modern technology allows you to dig a well up to 15 meters deep, which can supply water not only to you, but also to all your neighbors.

In the old days, when digging wells was done by hand, every extra meter in depth was difficult. That is why the search for “place” was given such importance. With modern earthmoving equipment, the correct location of the well digging site relative to buildings and sewerage equipment is more important than relative to the deflection of the aquifer.

Distance from septic tank to house

If you install a cleaning device, there is a high probability of violating the installation rules. That is why before starting work you need to obtain permission from the sanitary service. You must have all the regulatory documents. If you ignore this recommendation, there is a high probability that you will be fined and the structure will be completely dismantled.

When installing a septic tank, the maximum distance from the house to the septic tank should be maintained. This figure ranges from 5 m.

If possible, increase the distance. However, even 5 m is enough to prevent the foundation from flooding and unpleasant odors from appearing in the house. This will also prevent negative impacts on the soil. If you have positioned the septic tank correctly in relation to the house, do not forget to maintain it in a timely manner.
