Art

In our opinion, it is artistic parquet that stands out most advantageously among other natural coverings. It is made from rare hardwood. When laying a parquet board, a real picture is formed that can add a sophisticated touch to any interior.

There are two main types of artistic parquet: picturesque and geometric . The first type of coating forms an unusual picture with many branches. In the case of a geometric pattern, the pattern is duplicated throughout the base of the floor covering. Geometric parquet is somewhat reminiscent of classic mosaic.

The beauty and chic of artistic parquet

Most often, artistic parquet is used to zone a room or, conversely, to combine floor coverings from different rooms into one. There are such varieties of artistic parquet boards and types of elements as:

  • Mosaic . This is a repeating pattern, which is most often complemented by rosettes.
  • Sockets . Such a complex pattern is laid out in the center of the room.
  • Curbs . Designed in the form of geometric shapes or complex patterns (flowers, butterflies).

Incredibly beautiful drawings will not leave anyone indifferent

Large parquet pattern

Living rooms, halls, halls require appropriate flooring. They will undoubtedly be decorated with a large floral or geometric pattern created from parquet boards of various shades and textures. The size of the ornament (whether it will occupy the entire surface of the floor or only part of it) depends on the area of the room and, of course, your preferences.

Old new coating

Oak parquet is a durable floor covering. Its service life reaches 100 years, and the cost is very high. If the parquet is still durable, there are no rotten tiles, and there is no characteristic squeaking sound when walking, then you should not immediately change it to laminate. Even if the latter looks more beautiful. It is better to update the parquet. This floor will last for a long time. Even if you need to replace individual dies, the repair will be completely worth it. You just need to do everything to make the floor look new and fit harmoniously into the interior.

Sand and varnish

To restore parquet boards to their lost appearance, you need to completely remove the old varnish and the darkened top layer from the surface. To do this, the floor surface is subjected to scraping or grinding. The difference between these operations lies solely in the type of tool used. In the first case, cycles are used, and in the second, grinding machines are used. The result is the same - a smooth surface without varnish residues and dark marks characteristic of parquet.

The old layer has been removed!

Attention! The number of such operations is limited. Typically, boards are sanded 3-4 times. If the opportunity has not yet been exhausted, you should definitely take advantage of it to restore the parquet.

Working with a sander requires skill. Excessive force or improper tilting will cause streaks and pits, further degrading the appearance of the surface. Therefore, many give up the idea of doing this work on their own and turn to professionals for help.

Advice! Even before the restoration begins, it is worth covering the remaining things in the room with a special film. This will make subsequent cleaning easier.

If mechanical damage remains on the polished surface of the parquet, or gaps are found between the dies, they must be repaired. They do it in different ways. More often, preference is given to silicone-based compounds.

The prepared base is covered with a layer of varnish. The service life of the restored parquet depends on the thickness of the applied coating. Therefore, it is recommended to apply at least three layers.

Changing the color of the parquet

If after renovation the parquet does not fit into the interior, you should think about changing the tone. This is done using special compounds that are offered by manufacturers. The color can be changed from bleached oak to rich wenge.

The restoration technology is close to the previous version. Only in this case, after sanding, the surface is first coated with a coloring compound and then varnished. Another tinting option is varnish of a suitable shade. True, the boards in this case will not acquire such a rich color and will lose their presentable appearance much earlier.

Updating your tone is easy

Advice! When choosing a color, owners first of all pay attention to the natural shades characteristic of wood. But if you want to radically change the design, try choosing a non-standard solution.

Unusual shades for parquet::

  • terracotta;
  • green;
  • grey;
  • white;
  • black;
  • red.

White or gray is preferred by those who have chosen Provence, country, shabby chic or Scandinavian style. Black flooring is a universal solution that adds brightness and contrast to the interior.

Dark parquet is always beautiful

We use painting

For those who are good at drawing, it will not be difficult to add uniqueness to the floor covering by applying a design to the surface. Possible options:

  • correct geometric pattern;
  • beautiful pattern imitating a carpet;
  • separate fragments with the help of which the room is divided into zones;
  • artistic drawing - the choice of image depends solely on the stylistic design of the room.

We buy a carpet

If you don’t want to tinker with the flooring and restore the parquet, you can buy a new carpet. Tufting or carpet will immediately add coziness and comfort to the room.

The size of the carpet in this case does not really matter. It is not necessary to purchase a coating that will occupy the entire area of the room. It is enough to purchase a product of a small size in order to correctly place accents.

Parquet door

In rooms where there are few colors and textures and you don’t want to add anything extra to maintain the style, designers suggest making different interior details from the same material. For example, you can install a door made from the same parquet board as the floor. The room will look holistic and harmonious.

Original furniture

If the old parquet is removed, then the tiles find a new use. The durable coating has a beautiful natural surface that should be used in the manufacture of interior items. The choice of design and dimensions depend on the amount of raw materials and the capabilities of the performer.

Shelf

To create a shelf, you need to connect old parquet tiles in any order. For reliability, the lamellas are coated with glue and left to dry. The surface is varnished or oiled with hard wax. Furniture is fixed to the wall using holders or hung on chains (ropes).

Understanding what can be done from old parquet, it is easy to assemble a corner structure. The dies are connected in a herringbone pattern, symmetrically moving the rows. From 2-3 ready-made countertops you get a multi-tiered shelf. The parts are installed on racks or legs, which are painted to match the furniture.

Table

From old parquet, designers recommend assembling a table with a top made of tiles. The thickness of the tabletop is not inferior in parameters to traditional models. The parts are glued together with a special compound. For reliability, the structure is often connected on a plywood backing.

To make rectangular furniture, the slats are laid using the straight or diagonal square method. The resulting pattern looks beautiful and strict. If you combine tiles of different colors, the image resembles traditional parquet.

An oval tabletop is often assembled using the herringbone technology. To emphasize the uniqueness of the design, different slats are connected. For round furniture, they choose laying using the braiding method, adding a frieze along the edge. The top of the table can be filled with epoxy resin, which will protect the surface from mechanical damage.

Two-color herringbone

But in the modern interior of a living room, herringbone parquet looks somewhat banal. To diversify the appearance of the room, use parquet boards in two colors. The photo below shows an example of how this can be done.

Parquet in various interior styles

If you are an adherent of a certain style, then you will definitely be interested in the question of a well-chosen floor base that would fit into the overall design. Let's focus on the most popular trends today - classical, Scandinavian, ethno, art deco and high-tech.

  1. To make Art Deco more interesting, use bright wood that will stand out against the background of objects and textiles. The main note of this direction is individuality.
  2. For cold high-tech, light logs without a pattern or with slight natural stand-out wood fibers are perfect. It is better to choose a matte texture - this will partially eliminate coldness and angularity.
  3. An exotic type of wood will fit perfectly into the ethnic direction. You can choose a more trivial one, but let it be dull. This will give the interior completeness and create an atmosphere of country comfort.
  4. Scandinavian style involves the use of exclusively light natural shades, so gray and muted sand tones, barely distinguishable from white, are just right. An artistic design is inappropriate here, but stand-out wood fibers will add even more comfort.
  5. In the classic direction, oak or alder in dark, rich shades looks great. Opt for a modular option, piece or artistic - this will add a touch of royal nobility.

Colored Christmas tree

You can go even further and paint some details of a regular parquet herringbone in colors unusual for wood. The main thing is not to overdo it with the number of painted elements and the variety of the palette, so that the floor does not look too colorful. It looks original and fun.

Classification

Depending on the density of the wood from which the panel is made, high-density or low-density parquet is distinguished. The dark brown wood is often dense. Pink wood (cherry, pear, alder, etc.) has a lower density.

The grade is determined by the method of cutting the wood from which the parquet is made.

Consider the following varieties:

  • “Select” is an expensive high-quality parquet made by radial sawing. There are no knots or sapwood left on the board, the wood has a uniform color, and only minor mineral deposits are possible.
  • Radial is also a high quality variety with uniform color and no sapwood, but the percentage of mineral deposits on the surface is higher and can reach 60%.
  • The next grade of high-quality cut is “Standard”, it is of high quality, has no knots and sapwood, a slight difference in shade is possible. This type of parquet is produced by mixed cutting.

“Natural” parquet also refers to a mixed variety of sawdust, with the characteristic presence of sapwood and knots in small quantities, as well as a natural difference in tone.

  • Rustic parquet is of lower quality, but affordable. Produced by mixed cutting, it has not only knots and sapwood on the surface, but also small cracks, as well as different natural shades of wood on the surface.

Parquet board tiles

Old houses have a lot of wooden elements: doors, jambs, stairs, inserts on the walls; and wood floors are no exception. Small parquet tiles made in the form of squares consisting of several stripes look appropriate and harmonious in such an interior.

Types of wood

Depending on the type of coating used, the degree of deformation from humidity and resistance to mechanical stress changes.

  1. Oak is durable and suitable for different spaces. Thanks to its clear structure, it fits perfectly into many spaces.
  2. Teak is resistant not only to moisture and stress, but also to insects and fungus. For this reason, it is a favorite tree for outdoor spaces.
  3. Hornbeam is one of the most expensive species. It is distinguished by its special beauty after polishing and increased strength, but at the same time it is difficult to process.
  4. Wenge wood has an antibacterial effect.
  5. Ash is good for rooms with high loads, it is resistant to moisture, but does not like temperature fluctuations.
  6. Bamboo is environmentally friendly and will last a long time. It has a strong herbaceous odor and does not tolerate scraping.
  7. Beech does not tolerate water and high temperatures, but is easy to process.
  8. Maple is resistant to almost everything. The disadvantage is that after a couple of years the tree begins to gradually darken.
